The breast reduction surgery is the procedure of removing excess skin, fat and breast tissue in order to reduce the size of the breasts. The breasts may enlarge due to various reasons as hormonal and genetic factors, and gaining excess weight. Extremely large breasts are not good-looking aesthetically, and they may also affect one’s physical health in a negative way.
AM I CONVENIENT FOR A BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?
Extremely large breasts may cause one not to like her body even if she has got dressed, and may also lead to pain in back, shoulder and even in neck. Additionally, they may cause various postural disorders, and entrapment of the nerves leading to arms and hands may develop at the neck region. Performance of various physical activities may be limited. Droopy shoulders and slightly hunching one’s back are the most commonly observed posture. The psychological and physical effects of extremely large breasts may also cause deficiency in one’s self-confidence. Breast reduction surgery aims to provide more comfort and self-confidence by reducing the sizes of the women’s breasts. This operation not only helps to treat many complaints related to large breasts, but also helps to form symmetrical, smaller and not drooping breasts with natural nipples.

In order to undergo this operation, it’s recommended to stop smoking preferably 6 weeks before the surgery. The aim of this precaution is to prevent the circulatory disorders in tissues, which may develop due to smoking cigarettes.
HOW IS THE PROCESS OF THE BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?
Before undergoing the operation, you have to be consulted in order to speak about and discuss your expectations from the breast reduction surgery. There are dozens of techniques in the literature defined for breast reduction surgery. Various scientific studies have revealed that some of these techniques led to better outcomes. Applying a single technique for every patient is equivalent to trying to make everybody wear the same dress. Because the tightness, size, degree of sagging, and the shape of the breast tissue differ in every single person. Therefore all of the operations should be performed using individual techniques.
A round-shaped incision around nipple is the common point of all breast reduction or breast lift operations. In the patients not existing with extremely large or extremely sagging breasts, the breast reduction or breast lift may be done only with this incision (Figure 1). In slightly larger breasts, an additional perpendicular incision from nipple to the under-breast fold has to be made (Figure 2). In breasts larger than this, a horizontal incision is placed along the under-breast fold, in addition to the round and perpendicular incisions (Figure 3). Many surgeons in the world prefer only the lastly mentioned, ‘inverted T’-shaped technique.
